article-5aThe staccatissimo mark is usually a small filled in triangle that is placed below notes that have tails going up or it is inverted and placed above notes that have tails going down.

The idea being that the top point of the triangle is facing towards the head of the note.

As an expression technique, it is very similar to that of the staccato mark. The staccatissimo literally means “very staccato” or very short and detached.

To achieve this super staccato, the key is played as if being “plucked”.

Begin by resting the fingers atop the keys in the neutral position and then slide the finger tip back towards the palm of your hand, almost as if you were flicking something towards you.

The result will be a brittle and snappy sound as the weight of your finger is moving away from the key being struck.
